Can Summer Be Far Behind?

A photographer named Michael Dweck took all but one of these pictures in Montauk in the summertime. There is snow on the sand in January and the earth is now frozen solid. Fireplaces are best friends. Mr. Dweck's pictures bring back July memories.

Mr. Dweck is driving the Caddie and it's his surfboard.

Throw on another log.

  1. During my visit to Montauk this past December, I thought it might be interesting to head down to the beach and see what it looked like covered in snow. Perhaps it would look like celestial sand, or just remind me of the Bonneville Salt Flats. I walked down to the end of the driveway and then the end of the street, which links up with the Old Montauk Highway. The highway was a strip of land between enemy trenches, fielding frigid winds instead of bullets. I went back inside. Next winter, maybe.

  2. Have you ever seen the film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004) with Jim Carey in his best role to date?

It shows the awesome beauties of the Montauk beaches in the snowy times. A wonderful extra benefit is that most of the good flotsam that washes up from the ocean is left undisturbed for the few brave beachcombers in the winter. Bundle up in a hat, wool scarf and waterproof boots and enjoy the treaures and the fun.
